Spring cleaning has been underway at my house ever since the Christmas tree was packed away, and today's challenge was the re-organization of my craft closet. Everything looked so great and tidy when my eye caught last year's CD calendar, given out by a pharmaceutical rep. Keep in mind that these reps are no longer allowed to give anything away starting with this year, so I felt dumbfounded over losing my calendar that stays hidden in a closet. Never would I purchase one; besides the CD stand sat perfectly on an unoccupied space. Over to the computer, I hastily googled printable calendars when I stumbled upon a great blog, VintageGlam. It's technically a very pretty, Victorian-esque wedding blog, but it has a tab at the top for free downloads. You guessed it, my CD calendar was there along with tons of other really cool printable downloads. Candy bar wrappers, gift tags, soap labels ... there's so much to choose from. My calendar looks great (hidden behind closed doors.)

Today's Finds

Within 24 hours I have discovered quite a few new favorites, items of which I regret not knowing earlier. Let's just read about them in list format.
1. My new Nikon D90 camera: My husband told me how much its importance would be in my life. This camera can take about 4 photos a second (leaving me with lots of shots to delete but lots to choose from) plus it DOES zoom during the Hi-Def video recording unlike the advice of the Ritz camera guy. I can't wait to take some fru-fru photos to post here later, leading me into . . .
2. Creature Comforts: This blogsite is the epitome of my brain. It's chock-full of various craft downloads, free and slightly Martha Stewart-esque, photography features, links to tons of even better blogs, online shop advertisements that you'd actually like to click, glamorous eco-friendly tips ... I could go on and on just as the site does. Seriously, I'm feeling the sudden need for a week long vacation at a secluded spa with only my laptop, pen & notebook in order to fully devote the attention I'd like to this site. The photos are so inspirational (good thing I've got this new camera). If you look at it for no other reason, at least see her instructions on making a holiday gift bow made solely from a Target bag. Stunning.
3. Papa John's free chocolate pastry puffs: Does this really need further elaboration? I thought certainly that these confections were merely microwaved concoctions, but after ordering a pizza last night & trying the puffs for free, they were so delicious. I may need to order another pizza tonight to get more free.
4. NBC's Superstars of Dance: I laughed, I choked, I almost fell off the edge of my bed. The dancing on this show ranges from strangely lousy to jaw-dropping exotic. The judges represent various countries, the dancers are grouped as single, couple and group competitors, and the music is internationally astounding. I have a feeling after viewing the first episode that critics will respond harshly to the judges & commentary, and my only complaint lies in their lack of displaying the music being used. What fascinates me greatly is the level of talent for some of these countries versus the concept of what is true talent. On average (& forgive my attempt at a cyber-accent), zee more bad you dance, zee more high you score.
5. Caldrea's Sweet Pea Stain Remover: This stuff is worth the $10 price tag if you find it important to rid any soiled laundry item of whatever type of stain. Now that my daughter feels a need to help me feed her, I have lots of clothing with sweet potato puree stains, carrot stains, pasta stains, you get the picture. This remover completely dissolves the stain, even on whites!!! In fact, use this remover on an item still stained despite being previously washed and dried, and it disappears. Voila! My other 2 pros for this product: the fragrance is heavenly & the product is eco-friendly. Hook me up for caseloads.
6. Dry Cleaning Station: Since we're on the topic of laundry, I must point out the most brilliant of services out there--the free home delivery service provided by a dry cleaning company that is totally green. Dry Cleaning Station is almost like a member of your family. The website prides itself on excellent customer service, & I've discovered firsthand just how outstanding these people are. Did I mention the free home delivery service? For those of you in my neighborhood, here's the link to our local station, http://www.carolinadcs.com/ , but they're located all over the U.S.
As great as these six items are, tomorrow is always a new day full of jewels waiting to be found. For now, I'll just end the day on a new episode of Gossip Girl.

How many times have I revamped this never-seen blog? It's like a resolution that gets broken before January even ends, but between this site, my baby's website & my Facebook account, it seems like I would barely have time to live in the real world. My vow for 2009 is to spend more time here than on Facebook (it does lose its luster after a while) and to make sure the baby's website doesn't get disabled for the upteenth time.
Does that mean this puny entry counts for my first in 2009? Um, of course. Please accept the apologies & know that bookmarking this page will prove interesting.

This Week's Soapbox

The work week has ended, so I have attempted to relax with this month's Elle. A small blurb on a "fashion flashback" sent me into a tizzy thereby prompting this blog. Ten years ago a supermodel of the time, Jodie Kidd, graced the June cover of Elle. Twenty years ago a supermodel icon, Christy Turlington, was the cover. Today's, you ask?? Jessica Biel. I'm gonna save the brief opinion I have about that later in this speech. Let me begin my lobby to save the jobs of models.

Fashion magazines belong to fashion models. Celebrities are not models. They are simply glorified everyday people. I remember when the term supermodel became an official Webster's term. Those girls worked for their money. Christy, Cindy, Linda, Naomi, Claudia and the gang were the founders of the industry's beautiful monopoly concept--Always book the same 5 devastatingly top-notch models for everything. Now, whichever actress or singer has something to promote, whether it's a pop song, a movie, or a dare-I-say shoe line, they land a cover. Actresses originally were just pretty. They had flaws. Nicole Kidman had terribly frizzy hair. Drew Barrymore always had bad roots. Renee Zellweger had super-squinty eyes and mouse hair. Cameron Diaz had severe acne. Julia Roberts had unruly eyebrows and horse teeth. The list goes on.

One could assume the success with digital imaging has created an actress within the actress. These women hop from cover to cover as if they're all in The Devil Wears Prada while they pretend to be models meanwhile some geek airbrushes and re-touches the photos. It's ridiculous how I am subjected to fashion layouts AND an interview with actresses whose movies I'd never dare rent.

Jessica Biel 5/16/07: Umm, anyone from the now-defunct WB network,--and yes, that WILL have to include the current Mrs. Tom Cruise --should not make the cover of a fashion magazine known for couture.

Mandy Moore 4/17/07: Society has always smirked on the notion of the fashion industry's use of models in their teens, but suddenly it's ok to have Mandy on a cover? Didn't she sing a song about being as sweet as candy??

Rachel McAdams 3/13/07: McWho? McWhy?

Jessica Simpson 2/13/07: How can someone who has absolutely no sense of fashion, NONE, sell a fashion magazine. See below photos, as if I needed proof.

Gwen Stefani 1/16/06: I vaguely remember her idea of accessories including braces and corn rows. Tres chic!

Jennifer Garner 12/12/06: I like this girl, really I do, but my neighbor has more glamour.

Beyoncé 11/8/06: Naomi Campbell and Iman were the ultimate divas of ethnicity, yet they struggled to land covers. Beyoncé is no Iman, so how does she rate!!!

Jessica Alba 910/17/06: She's only good for being a Maxim girl, and that's not a complement.

Drew Barrymore 9/19/06: I've mentioned the roots. There are also the tacky tattoos, the dye jobs, the lisp you can hear from a photo ....
Lindsay Lohan 8/14/06: I am going to be brave here. She is perhaps one of the few children in media history when the world was forgiven for poking fun of her for being rather ugly.

Keira Knightley 7/18/06: I can forgive Elle for displaying Ms. Knightley. Beautiful Brits are a dime a dozen they say.

iWish for an iPhone because ...

Okay, so my husband has me spoiled to the thought of actually purchasing one of the new iPhones so when I found this website, www.pandora.com, I really really NEED the iPhone. Pandora can only be described as a forum where KaZaa/Napster + satellite radio = iTunes albums. You tell the site what artist/album/song you like, and it finds that artist and others with a similar sound to build your own radio station. I'm still tweaking with it, but so far it's providing interesting suggestions of lesser-known artists. Advisory: the site doesn't play all artists, only those signed with participating record labels. Warning: the site does link you with iTunes. Oh boy, my iPhone is gonna sound so good.

The ideas are limitless when you can create your own vinyl record .jpegs and concert tickets on the recently discovered www.says-it.com. I'm seeing tons of creatively practical uses, from email invitations, homemade DVD cover art, scrapbooking & sticker making. This site allows you to customize your art with text & color scheme. In less than 5 minutes, I had a really great concert ticket to remember my upcoming Pampered Chef party plus this awesome vinyl to display here. Please, mark this one!!

Fashion Victim for Reality TV: The Return of Project Runway

There are a slew of intellectuals who argue that reality television has dumbed down America, and I am not one of such thought. Anyone who can label Bravo's Project Runway as dumb may just be so, for the reality/game show/soap opera was a major success, even receiving an Emmy nod. Watching 12 designers fight weekly on the catwalk was dramatic and humorous; witnessing them create some of the best and worst fashion designs was mind-blowing. This was a first in reality television--most of these people had true talent.
Naturally, I adored the Runway. (Who knew Michael Kors was so devilishly charming and Heidi Klum so sweet!) Despite having watched every episode and some marathon weekends, I jump for joy at the news of Season One coming to DVD on November 29th, around the time Season Two begins to catapult a wannabe designer to fashion stardom.
To understand the appeal to this reali-fantasy, tune in to Bravo on these days to catch a few teasing episodes: Fri, Aug 26 5:00 AM & Sat, Aug 27 12:00-2:00 PM. Don't forget to set your TiVo for all the new episodes once they air!

SheFinds featured an in-depth review of products recommended to fight frizzy hair. Now that Victoria's Secret hosts the Frédéric Fekkai line, I am completely fond of his Smooth Hair Cream ($16.50) to keep my frizz at bay.
Daily Fashion Report mentions the Style section of The New York Times, noting that its retrospective photo of Anna Wintour--Vogue Editor-in-Chief--in 1991 looks no different than Anna Wintour of 2005.
My Fashion Life spreads the news of Kimora Lee Simmons, wife of hip hop mogul Russell Simmons and Baby Phat designer. Mrs. Simmons will serve six months probation after pleading guilty to careless driving. " The former model avoided charges of reckless driving and ignoring a police car’s sirens for several miles last July. She also faced drug possession charges as police officers found a small amount of marijuana in her car." Being a non-violent first time offender, all charges will be dropped upon completion of the program. J'adore Dior Now!!!

Ok, Dior's catchy French slogan was getting a tad bit old, that is, until I browsed some of the fall accessories on eLuxury. It's all so functionably chic that I created a little story in my head, envisioning how each wishful item could be used.
Once upon a time, I was preparing to meet my (soon-to-be) brand new niece. Full of excitement, I quickly pulled on my romantic flowers ankle boots ($1150) and stopped by the mirror to freshen the Addict Lip Fluid ($22), a shiny gloss with the long-lasting color of a lipstick.
A quick glance to the 43 diamond decorated dial of my Riva chronograph sparkling steel watch ($3195) told that there was just enough time to gather up the baby's gift, her very first Dior cardigan ($120) in cotton, with a vinyl "1" on front, a sparkling rhinestone border and a butterfly with a silver "Dior" embroidery and put it in the romantic flowers leather tote ($1150) that matches Auntie's boots. One day, I'll teach her that matching shoes to purses do not have to always be so particularly focused.
On the way out the door, I suddenly remembered to grab her first teddy bear, Dior style ($265) before driving happily away in MissMini.

I was really excited to see Daily Candy's feature on PixelGirlPresents, a website geared at changing your computer's desktop icons with images of cutesy cartoons. Don't let the PixelGirl part fool you, there are icons for boys--Transformers, Kill Bill, and Star Wars. My only problem was not being able to convert my icons once I saved a cartoon set.
Closet Therapy went all out after her trip to Maui. She's got three postings today discussing Marc Jacob's new collection of watches, the new 7 for All Mankind jeans, and various sprays perfect for refreshing, saving, protecting your face/skin/hair.
I'm drooling over the latest website link provided by that infamous SheFinds. (I completely adore this site, so much that I posted my blog link in their forum.) This brand is mentioned all the time in the fashion magazines, but I've never fully paid attention until tonight. Cake Beauty is a cosmetics line suited for those with a "sweet tooth" who love spa-inspired bath stuff; brown sugar scrubs, milk made hand creme, and dream puff bath gel are just a few of the good-enough-to-eat products. Just when I realized I had too many bath gels ...grrrrrrrr.
I'm not going back in time for Daily Fashion Report. In fact, I will probably be removing the link from my credit.
Oh boy, I cannot wait ... Beyoncé and her mother are creating accessories for their House of Deréon clothing line according to My Fashion Life. I would like to see Angelina Jolie design accessories and Pamela Anderson design clothing and Trista from The Bachelor design shoes and at least seventeen other celebrities with lines if the best Tommy Hilfiger can find will be one of the idiots currently on his show The Cut.

Crossing the Threshold of a Wedding Budget

Je suis heureux de se retourner. (I'm happy to return.) After exam discussions relating globalization to technology, it only seems proper to dabble in the subject for my return to cyber-couture with a little French.
So, now that school has been suspended until fall, I have a little more time to direct my wedding event. After stumbling on the designs of Lewis Cho, I now envision a wonderful hommage to the departure dress, a quaint way to exit your reception AND have a completely different dress as you step out as a married woman. The NY design team has a gorgeous wool jersey babydoll dress on display in the August Vogue (yes, I'm finally reading it). It has a price tag that won't require foregoing a tiered cake ($209), and it looks elegant enough to pass as a wedding dress if maybe you are more womanly in age and/or not seeking that traditional look--don't forget a retro, poofy 60s style veil.
Departing requires transporation. My new husband and I will be traveling by airline, so a carry-on bag full of essentials (this is not the time to lose luggage) is a must have. Dooney & Bourke has so many great travel bags, but the all-weather leather collection will wear greatly as a tote. The large tassel tote, in saddle not the featured black, is $425 and roomy enough for a makeup bag, pair of undies, a good book and whatever else you'd need.
No outfit is complete without shoes. Absolutely necessary are the new Jimmy Choo Brocade d'Orsay pumps. Skip invitations, call guests on the phone, and use the money saved for this $565 work of art. Or, no one will notice missing monogrammed cocktail napkins . . . !!!
With a good, light hair fur coat, this newlywed is ready to honeymoon.

After taping over the HP insignia on my laptop, I click on the Daily Candy blog with much hesitation. Will it cover a new Cirque de Soleil clothing line available at Target? Maybe they've found a book explaining the multiple ways to perform at-home colonics. Whatever the case, I'm prepared for the worst.
WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not a nightmare, but it has to be a hoax, until I clicked on the working link to personally examine what D.C. is blogging. Jelly Belly jelly beans has teamed up with DeLoach vineyards (one of my recommendations) to create a Jelly Belly wine bar kit. Kits range in price from $15 for 1/4 pound to $736 for a full pound. I'm seeing an all-new take on guest favors at weddings.
SheFinds briefly examines the subject of self-tanning. Guess I'm a step-ahead. Their link takes me to Sephora's self-tanning products, and they also discuss ultra sheer and toeless hosiery. Yuck.
Daily Fashion Report is still on the diamonds of Rosiblu.
My Fashion Life hasn't updated since yesterday. One of yesterday's stories surrounds skinny celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and that Full House twin. I never cared for either girl . . . won't be taking fashion tips from them.

Fall in Love with Fall

Lilly Pulitzer loves summer. It's obvious in her Palm Beach prints. This fall, however, looks so bright and preppy without her usual pastel pallet. In the featured look, the embroidered Novelty jean ($168) looks snappy paired with the Drew jacket ($225-285) and the Monroe vest ($128) overtop either the Brent button down shirt ($98) or the Frankie turtleneck ($65). I'm seeing at least seven variations with this outfit, making it very cost-effective for my fall wardrobe.
Lilly does great long sleeve polos made of wonderful stretch pima cotton for $65, but Ralph Lauren's cotton mesh version can be customized for a mere $10 more. You choose the polo color, the Pony or monogram emblem, and the embroidery color. It's so inventive and interactive. I'm such a sucker.
Finally, I would like to spend the rest of my life working/living in a Sephora store. I visit the website more often than my email. As if the company knew of my engagement, they are now offering gift registries for whatever occassion you could desire. I am registered as a bride in need of constant glowing. Sadly, no one has made any purchases. Perhaps that's why my skin is still stressed.
Remember that with every online Sephora order, you get to choose three free samples and complementary gift boxing/bagging.
A gift registry to celebrate the fall fashion arrivals in stores sounds perfectly warranted.

Ok, if I'm not in some weird 80s flashback where I'm a story on Hitchcock Presents . . . obviously Daily Candy installed a secret webcam in my HP insignia to capture those moments when clicking on the featured links ignites either humor or terror. Single Wallpaper creates wallcoverings featuring life size images of people (standing, sitting, eating). A wallpaper with a person on it, forever a lifeless buddy, definitely sounds like a decorative choice for the single female with forty indoor cats.
SheFinds must sense my delayed initiative at restarting a workout program, for she shows off supermodel Christy Turlington's workout clothing line Nuala by Puma. Sorry, but I prefer the Stella McCartney for Adidas line.
Daily Fashion Report recaps the preview of the fall jewelry line by Rosiblu Jewelers in collaboration with Vera Wang. I'm just not a big Wang fan, but the collection does start at a reasonable $500.
My Fashion Life posts some rules to live by. I'll edit to the finer points with inclusion of my own insight.
1. Avoid patterned or dark underwear under white linen. (Yeah, a former friend wore black undies with a gauzy white miniskirt--AND Hilfiger wooden wedges--and I almost fainted from the anxiety of being seen next to her.)
4. Never wear black shoes with all white too harsh opt for cream tonal or silver (This goes for black sneakers with shorts and white shoes with black socks and shorts--regardless your age)
6. Accessories can say more about you than the outfit- check Shoes, Glasses, Bag and Watch (I am a stickler for this. My outfit may sometimes incorporate scrub pants, but I'm gonna have Italian sunglasses and/or a great handbag to complete the look. Don't forget my diamond studs and tank watch.)
7. Not always about brand but the look (This is sooooo very true. I'm saving brands for children's names: quirky Kate Spade, little Lilly Pulitzer, and rowdy Ralph L.)
8. To get a look make sure there is part of you in it or it just won’t work. (A lovely lady by the name of "K. Hanger" swears my signature is pink. Since she will read this tomorrow, I swear it's only coincidence.)
9. Basics should always be of high quality as they will get the most wear (Here's my final argument for keeping those blasted jeans.)
10. Guys- Invest in a plain black v neck from Gucci it will last forever (But only if you live in Manhattan or work as an architect in Boston, otherwise you're gonna border on copying cousin Eddy from National Lampoons.)
11. Don’t underestimate the investment purposes of dry cleaning (Exactly. I took a white sweater for "freshening" and closed the greasiest part of Mini's door on the sleeve in the cleaners' parking lot. The guy worked wonders.)
17. Never mix navy and black (My mom does this often with her dress shoes. She finally labeled the insides; "B" for black and "B" for blue.)

Maximize the Mini

If you have ever even stepped near a Mini Cooper, you have to admit the charge that came from being so close to something so wickedly cool. If you've had the pleasure of riding as guest or driver, then you absolutely know that there's no denying the intense thrill. And to be an owner . . . and to go on Mini ralleys . . . and to . . . and to . . . and to . . . !!!!! Well, let's just say that my next short film is a documentary on being a Mini owner.
It would stand to reason that I love almost anything Mini. Minisport.com is a British site with the neatest accessories and car parts. Sadly, the prices are not converted to U.S. dollars, but that doesn't stop this shopaholic from browsing. The Mini computer mouse is on my Hit-List. For £16.13, I can have this mouse to whiz my cursor around the screen just as swiftly as my car can hug a tight curve.
Good ol' MiniMania.com has the first toy I want to give my child, and if I am never blessed with one, then it'll be a toy for me to make up for never getting that Barbie car from Santa. The Mini Cabrio pedal car in yellow holds children up to 66 pounds and will cost parents $229.95.

I almost dread checking Daily Candy. Oh dear ... face masks designed as animal mouths. If I were to ever have showed up in the OR with one of these, the surgeon who regularly screamed at me would have thrown me out.
Closet Therapy is in Hawaii and won't be online until August 2. At least she's courteous.
Chanel sent runway models down the catwalk with LCD screens attached to their belts, and SheFinds tells all about it in a review of the website techiediva.com. This site is amazing! It tells the hows and wheres to products such as Juicy Couture laptop covers, Ferrari cell phones, and Gucci iPod cases. As for the Chanel TV belt, it's not for sale.
Daily Fashion Report needs to take cues from Closet Therapy. I refuse to click on their banner advertising more fashion reporting with a subscription to the premium site.
My Fashion Life advertises the first U.S. opening of a Jennifer Lopez boutique, located in the Chicago Marshall Fields. Hmmmmm . . . a potential recruiting tactic for visiting the Windy City??

Fake Not Bake

It seems that multiple warnings of how deadly tanning beds are and how sunscreens are a must to block sun exposure still don't really mean much to our tans-are-terrific culture. With a slew of self-tanning products, how come people don't take advantage of this safe alternative?
Take me, for instance. I see a lady with this deeply tanned skin everyday in class. Her Peruvian heritage is to blame for her perfectly dark skin. I am China-doll white. I could be jealous and attempt to sleep in a tanning bed with sweet dreams of Peru, but I will only walk away one cancerous candy cane (I burn weirdly). Tanned I will never be, leading me to today's lesson, if you will.
There are tons of ways to get a "tan." I've tried almost 1200 pounds of them. Cheap or expensive, dries in an hour versus dries in 5 minutes, built in bronzing, mousse, cream, spray formulas ... I've even braved the airbrush tan at a day spa. For pale skin like mine, I've come to rely on three products. These three miracle workers are guaranteed for anyone!
First and foremost, Jergens has a Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer. Available in drug stores for $6, this moisturizer adds a slight deposit of DHA so that with regular use a lovely glow results. Because it's predominantly a moisturizer, it doesn't streak.
Second place goes to DuWop's Revolotion, a moisturizer with SPF 15 and shimmery tint. Think of it as lightweight, budge-proof body makeup that is completely goof-proof. Revolotion comes in three tints for $21. (www.sephora.com)
The final force comes from Lancôme. Their Flash Bronzer series deposits a golden tan within an hour and promises no streaks due to its tinted formula which allows you to see where it's being applied. The products run $26-29.50 and can be purchased online or at major department stores.
My pale skin when "enhanced" will never come close to my Peruvian friend's, but at least I can take comfort in knowing that she and I are playing it safe.

"Gap have had to let go of the soul singer amidst reports that the now 18yr old but then 17yr old moved in with her 25yr old boyfriend Beau Dozier and was still below the age of consent under Californian law. Although Gap and Stone had started work on the ad, Gap had to halt procedures for fear that Joss’ boyfriend Dozier, son of Motown hitmaker Lamont Dozier could be guilty of statutory rape." I'm in a sort of denim dilemma. My I-find-the-best-deals brother criticized my purchase of a $98 pair of jeans, yet I justified the purchase mentally because these jeans are "clean" and perfectly fitting. Anyone who's gone through the hassle of trying on jeans can testify that the right pair is worth a little extra $$. HOWEVER, after overhearing a girl discuss her $100+ pair with holes and bleach stains everywhere, it makes the issue confusing. What constitutes a good pair of denim worth a steep price tag? Ironically enough, Neiman Marcus sent me an email this morning to welcome the new Prada denim line. Prada denim??? Let's browse the racks for a moment: a denim jacket for $350 and jeans for $615. But it's Prada, right?
Um . . . no.
I love the most vulgar priced shoes. I've been known to waste $$ on expensive lipstick when there are already fourteen tubes in the same shade in my purse. I'm slowly breaking my Kate Spade handbag addiction. But, let me remind my readers of this one fact. Denim is denim. It's all made in the same factory. Different labels mark which become trendy and which become Target. Find a nicely abused pair at a consignment store and take a bench-grinder or sander to rough them up. But please, don't pay $100+ for shabby denim, and certainly don't pay $615 for Prada.

These wallets are made with a proprietary laminate process, meaning artwork and paint chip swatches are sewn between layers of clear vinyl.

SheFinds is the most wonderful blog in the world. They feature a website that holds dear to my high school memories. Copacetique.com offers the 60s & 70s clothes that inspired petitions to have me banned from school (I graduated in the 90s). Interesting applique sweaters, polyester blouses, and some of the most rad accessories at perfect prices. A floral print pencil skirt is only $15, justifying the $5 tag on a card perfect for sending to the Napoleon Dynamite in your life. Perhaps I can sell my vintage stuff, or maybe I should just start wearing it again??
DFR mentions another PR business to be added to the list of the now defunct. Apparently PR firms went out of style in NY once Samantha Jones became a syndicated character.
And on My Fashion Life, ubermodel Kate Moss has separated from her controversial rocker boyfriend Pete Doherty. The poor dear Miss Moss is probably regretting ever breaking up with Johnny Depp.

Supermodel Maggie Rizer lost her fight with world bank HSBC, who allowed her stepfather to withdraw $7million from her account while he was intoxicated. He is currently serving sentences for grand larceny and scheming to defraud. Whew! When rich people aren't happy, what's left for the rest of us?

Ok, MissMini is lounging in the downtown area of Atlanta, and one shopping trip has already produced a Coach Hamptons tote (for the mum). Glorious strolls through Versace, Gucci, and Oilily made me secretly wish my credit card conscience wasn't so overly frugal. If I could have thrown away $650, it would have been on a Gucci small top handle tote in the old style print. This bag is small and preppy and has the cutest charms dangling from the handle.
I'll just carry my last-year Kate Spade suede hobo. (big sigh)

A lovely reader referred me to Alise Marie, a ready to wear line that captures a vintage flair in a modern approach. She draws upon silent film vixens and art deco (two of my favorite things) for inspiration and plays with silk chiffons, velvet, and hemp to create some really vampy fashions. If I had a gift card, my choices would be the swiss dot chiffon blouse, black silk pencil skirt and cream herringbone coat with faux fur trim and hemp fleece lining. I'd definitely be the femme fatale for sure.
Ok, enough super-girlie talk, on to men. The infamous Juicy Couture line, those Cali girls who brought us expensive terry cloth sweatsuits, have now expanded to the realm of menswear. Who would have guessed that men could wear track pants, screenprint tees, and velvet blazers . . . all at the same time!!! Please don't read that I'm encouraging this look, but it's featured on bloomingdales.com: pants ($138), tee ($62), blazer ($225), & oh so much more . . . .

SheFinds discusses the McDonald's recruitment of America's top fashion designers for the revampment of their uniform. Tommy Hilfiger and P.Diddy are front-runners for the $80 million makeover. Guess the new slogan will be "Would you like fries and a bottle of cologne with that?" (My Fashion Life featured this story in their July 6th blog) How about a stupid tee from t-shirts.com . I happen to like "Parsley makes it fancy" (see photo).

Something Old, New, Borrowed, Blue

I'm getting married in December and have been suffering a terrible time with my gown. That should be the fun part, one would think, but I'm just going to make use of the tradition to wear something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue to spunk things up. Here are my suggestions for keeping a tradition alive.
1. Something old My diamond studs, the first present given by my fiance, could be considered old, but just in case I'll pin an old brooch of my mom's or grandma's onto my bouquet.
2. Something new Figuring that pearls will adorn the neck, it only makes sense to wear pearl earrings. My matron of honor is all about chandelier earrings, so I might try a pair for a festive-formal look. Anthropology has an intricate pearl snowflake pair ($278) that would be perfect for my Christmas-time date. I might should register for those!!??!
3. Something borrowed I am all for borrowing items. Would anyone perchance have those pearls???
4. Something blue The shoes have been purchased and worn to break them in, but they don't totally SPEAK to me, so I'm always on the lookout for a new pair. The "gusto" by Kate Spade ($395) comes in blue canard, meeting the 'something blue' requirement. Made in Italy of haircalf, it has an adjustable strap and 3 3/4" heel. It's really wise to buy a pair of shoes that can function as whenever shoes. These are completely functionable and would look so cute under my dress. Very striking. But if Mommie doesn't like that idea, Spade does offer a gold pump in snake print leather ($340) with a 4" heel, and my blue will come from having to wear a different shoe.

It has come to my attention through a posting's comment that perhaps the title Fashionable Medicine refers to designer pills. Being an RN who's dealt with many patients requesting high-profile pills for recreational use, I can assure my readers that there will never be mention of actual medicine on this site, unless I opt out for some last minute cosmetic surgery and feel the need to share info.
On to today's blog, Daily Candy dotes on the new "sorority sister" necklaces designed by Duke University 'sisters'. These pearls by Tag & Tom come in strands of three or four and clasp with the (overplayed) ribbon in color schemes to match your house colors. Considering I only belong to a Greek honors society and Duke is a rival, these pearls will not be on my list. Come on Daily C!!!!!!!!
Closet Therapy must be camped out at Nordstrom. There are no new postings.
SheFinds celebrates the Dutch line Mind What You Wear for their ingenious design: fake Louis Vuitton handbags with FAKE printed over the Murakami print. Glorious!! I get tired of playing 'how many fake Vuittons can I spot'.

Oh dear, I am having a fit of the vapors. My Fashion Life reports that the famed 7th on Sale event last heard of at least a decade ago will be returning this year in the form of an Ebay auction. 7th on Sale, in NYC, is one of the largest designer sample sales straight from Seventh Ave. stores. The event will run on Ebay from Nov 1o-Dec 7, and all proceeds go to AIDs charities.

Having completely exhausted most of my jeans, today required a trip to boutiques in the mall. Guess what? I found, tried on, and subsequently purchased a pair of Blue2 jeans. This was mentioned on SheFinds yesterday. Blue2 is the sister to Blue Cult denim. Around $98/pair, these jeans are a great alternative to psychiatry. I fit into a very small size in a long length, and they looked lovely. How's that for making me feel good!!!
After purchasing a new car decal from my college bookstore, it came to my attention that perhaps my Mini would like some new jewelry other than ANOTHER decal. After all, the back window is only so large. MiniMania has altered the look of their website, featuring options for Britain and U.S. I've only dealt with Moss Mini for customization, but this site does sell a very official looking decal designed for the boot or the rear quarter panel of the Mini. MissMini is revving the engine at a side panel decal!! But first, she covets the chrome door handle cups. Choosy girls drive choosy vehicles. This 4" decal, in white or black, runs $16.95. Ok, I've had problems with Daily Candy's links, but after finally getting wonderfulgraffiti.com to view over the weekend, D.C. was back in good graces; however, today's posting on the NapCap must take the cake. Please, refer to the photo. It's a ballcap with straps that adjust around your chair so that your head stays in place while you doze. You know, Charlie wins Wonka's heart in saying that candy doesn't have to make sense. Maybe this blog takes Charlie seriously, but I think they put too much effort in their illustrations.
Closet Therapy features a blurb on the cosmetics specials during Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale. I already had my catalog-by-mail flagged for attention when I take an Atlanta shopping trip this weekend.
I hate espadrilles. SheFinds brags on Christian Louboutin espadrilles on sale at vivre.com. If someone loved me enough to buy my first Louboutin's, please don't let them be espadrilles just because the price is slashed. Also mentioned is a piece on Blue 2, the new sister label to Blue Cult denim. These jeans run cheaper than Blue Cult without scrimping on the style.
The Daily Fashion Report is old-news, but My Fashion Life starts her page with a bang. Jude Law has issued a public apology for cheating on his girlfriend Sienna Miller. Now, how is this surprising, and what does this doofy guy have?? Bring back Hugh Grant!

Boots are BIG for fall. Tall, over the knee, high heel or flat, everyone needs a decent pair of boots. Neiman Marcus has featured the most divine boots in leather and suede by Gucci, and I have to admit that the cowboy boot is by far the classiest re-invention of a cowgirl's favorite accessory. Now you won't need to live in Texas to wear cool cowboy boots, but you will need a paycheck devoted to the splurge. Gucci's cowboy boot retails at $795.

I'm really into rainboots, or wellingtons, and N.M. has a very cutesy pair of Burberry's for $120 (who better than the British for my wellies). But, please, no more Uggs. So many designers have jumped on this trend and made "mountain" boots so much more stylish. My fav comes from Michael Kors, available for $330 at Bergdorf Goodman. Kors' boot is made in Italy, from a sport suede with faux shearling lining. The flat heel keeps it comfortable like an Ugg, but these straps and that buckle make it suitable for girls ready to put fun back into their wardrobes. Let's show these celebrities in favor of the sloppy Ugg what it means to be glamorous!!!!!!
